ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to verify the observance of the principle of human dignity, concomitantly with the trade of carbon credits in the Cautário River’s extractive reserve (RESEX), located in the municipality of Costa Marques, in the Federative Unit of the State of Rondônia, Western Amazon. The study highlights the holding of public calls for companies interested in the carbon credits generated by the RESEX’s forest, but also in the implementation of financial and social benefits for the inhabitants of the traditional community, as compensation. The study revealed that it is possible to profit from the trade of carbon credits and to reify the human dignity, either in its community or social dimensions. The present research had a qualitative character, as it investigated the enforcement of the principle of human dignity, either in its community or social dimensions, particularly with the Cautário River’s traditional residents. First, the concept of carbon credit was described, including its socio-environmental and corporate importance; subsequently, the Cautário River’s Reserve was presented and, lastly, the innovative idea of trading the carbon credits of this environmental unit, from the perspective of the principle of human dignity. The bibliographic research approach was used, followed by inductive logical analysis.
