Abstract

This article presents a comprehensive discussion on the diversity of restorative approaches. Restorative justice is not a monolithic concept but rather a perspective on justice shaped by different cultural, historical, and social realities. The text challenges the common reduction of restorative justice to a limited set of methodologies and highlights its development beyond criminal justice. It is suggested that restorative justice is guided by principles such as dialogue, attention to relationships, offender accountability, reparation and healing for the victim, community engagement, transformation of the causes of conflict, and prevention of the recurrence of violence. These principles serve as a compass for various restorative practices around the world. Although originally forged in victim-offender reconciliation programs, restorative justice has become a global paradigm that invites new practices of justice beyond punishment and vengeance
