Abstract

This text is an essay in honor of the indigenist Roque Simão, for his extraordinary contribution over several decades of work with the indigenous peoples of the state of Rondônia, Brazil. It is a memoir, presenting the various voices of people who have interacted with Roque Simão and have memories of a lifetime of collaboration and companionship. Roque Simão is now retired, and lives with one of his daughters near the city of Porto Velho. Even with limited health, he always remembers the times when he worked with the Sakurabiat and other peoples of Rondônia. The aim of this tribute is to register his achievements and to bring recognition from the Sakurabiat people and the linguist Ana Vilacy Galucio to Roque Simão's contribution, be it to the demarcation and protection of traditional territory, or to the the documentation and valorization of the language and culture of these people, or for the well-being of their members.
