This article analyzes the invisibility of the riverside communities of the Madeira River during the environmental licensing process of the Santo Antônio and Jirau hydroelectric plants, from the perspective of the Theory of Recognition, legal pluralism, and the critique of the coloniality of knowledge. It argues that the hegemonic development model, operating under a logic of energy coloniality, denies the collective identity of these communities and disrupts their ontological relationship with the territory and with Nature. The paper defends that the legal and symbolic recognition of forest peoples and of Nature as a subject of rights is essential for the construction of a pluriversal legal system and for the realization of socio-environmental justice in the Amazon. The methodology adopted is qualitative, based on critical documentary analysis, interdisciplinary theoretical review, and emphasis on Amazonian epistemologies.
