Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy at Revista Bem Viver Compartilhando Saberes
Revista Bem Viver Compartilhando Saberes establishes clear guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) by authors, editors, and reviewers. The implementation of these policies aims to ensure the integrity, reliability, and quality of publications, guaranteeing that academic contributions remain grounded in ethical and scientific principles.
In the academic context, Revista Bem Viver Compartilhando Saberes recognizes that AI tools can assist with text revision, the analysis of non-sensitive data, and other editorial processes. However, their use must be judicious to avoid ethical and academic issues.
This policy is in compliance with the “Guide for the use of Artificial Intelligence tools and resources in research communication on the SciELO Network,” published in September 2023.
Guidelines for authors
- Transparency: The use of AI in the production of articles must be explicitly disclosed in the methodology section of the manuscript.
- Authorship: AI cannot be considered an author of articles. The human author is solely responsible for the integrity and originality of the content; this position is in line with guidelines from CAMBRIDGE, 2023; COPE, 2023.
- Data protection: Sensitive or unpublished data must not be shared with AI tools.
- Permitted use: AI tools may be used for text revision, detection of conceptual inconsistencies, support in structuring the manuscript, analysis of non-sensitive data, translations, and checks against journal guidelines. In addition, all analysis performed with AI support must be reviewed by the authors, who are responsible for the publication in its entirety. The use of such tools must be disclosed through an AI use statement in the final version of the article, as indicated by ELSEVIER, 2023.
AI use statement Authors must include an AI use statement in their manuscripts, clearly and in detail explaining how the tools were employed in the development of the article. This statement must include:
- Tool used: name and version of the AI tool employed.
- Purpose of use: explanation of how AI was used (e.g., grammatical review, organization of ideas, data analysis, etc.).
- Limits of AI contribution: indication that AI was not responsible for the full generation of the content and that human authorship is fully responsible for the article.
- Impact on writing and analysis: description of how AI influenced the construction of the publication.
- Ethical compliance: declaration that the use of AI complies with the journal’s guidelines and does not compromise the scientific integrity of the work (SciELO, 2023).
Guidelines for editors and reviewers
- Identification of AI use: Editors should assess whether there are indications of improper use of AI and, if necessary, request clarifications from the authors.
- Critical evaluation: Originality and academic integrity must be preserved, ensuring that AI does not compromise the scientific contribution of the articles.
- Ethics and bias: Reviewers should be alert to possible biases generated by AI tools, avoiding the reproduction of misinformation or prejudice.
- Use of AI in review: AI may be used for spelling checks, detection of conceptual inconsistencies, translations, and checks against journal guidelines. However, such use must be disclosed in the review document by the reviewers and, when applicable, in the final version of the article by the editors.
Final provisions
- Revista Bem Viver Compartilhando Saberes may update this policy at any time to reflect editorial best practices and recommendations from organizations such as SciELO, COPE, CAMBRIDGE, and ELSEVIER.
- Omitted cases will be assessed by the editor-in-chief, with the Editorial Board being consulted when necessary.
- Noncompliance with this policy may result in returning the manuscript for adjustments, rejection of the article, or other appropriate editorial measures.
