Abstract

This photographic essay brings together images produced by Moacir da Cruz Santos during work-related travel along roads, highways, and rural routes in Rondônia. In his work as a court officer, the author travels long distances and encounters landscapes marked by solitary trees, open areas, cultivated fields, pastures, dirt roads, and changes in vegetation cover. Photography emerges as a means of observing and recording scenes shaped by beauty, environmental transformation, and the possibility of disappearance. In these images, living, flowering, or already dead trees remain as signs of memory, wounds, the passage of time, and resistance. By bringing together professional practice, roads, and landscape, the essay presents an Amazon viewed from its margins and transformed territories, revealing both the intensity of its skies and colors and the traces of human interventions that reorganize space and fragment the living whole.
